ILLUSTRATIONS FOR GREAT EXPECTATIONS
The original serial publication of Great Expectations in All the Year Round did not have accompanying illustrations, the only time a Dickens work appeared in the magazine without them. The illustrations below are from the 1862 Library Edition, eight woodcuts by Marcus Stone. The Victorian Web, which hosts these images, in some cases also provides critical and historical commentary, along with relevant images from other editions, collated by Philip V. Allingham. We have demarcated them with chapter numbers for easier correspondence with the chapters as we’ve linked them on this website.
